for the Spain they believed to be better: in Maó
Maó-Mahón is the capital city of the island of Menorca and seat of the Island Council of Menorca. The city is located on the eastern coast of the island, which is part of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands, Spain. In the past Mahón had a regiment of infantry of the Spanish Army, Mahón 46, also called Cuartel de Santiago. The barracks of the same name, were in the Plaza de la Explanada and now are used as a leisure area for members of the army, the “Mahón” social activity military residence. Acccording to the website http://www.diaper.ejercito.mde.es/ “the RMASD (Residencias Militares de Acción Social de Descanso) / Social Activity Military residences have the purpose to provide accommodation, holiday break and leisure for military personnel and their families.” The “Mahón” social activity military residence houses a francoist obelisk which has been resignified with the words “honor a todos los que dieron su vida por España". These photos were taken in January 2018 and show some images of this obelisk.
