In Predappio: Mussolini’s crypt in San Casiano Cemetery
Mussolini's crypt is located in the San Casiano Cemetery in Predappio, Italy, the dictator's birthplace. Since 1957, it has housed the remains of Benito Mussolini in a family mausoleum designed by Florestano Di Fausto, becoming a subject of historical debate about fascism. After being executed in 1945 and spending years in hiding, Benito Mussolini’s body was moved to the family mausoleum in 1957. The crypt has had temporary closures, especially after restorations in 2017, but nowadys it is open to the general public. It is a place of worship for his followers, covered in plaques of gratitude, and a controversial site that attracts political and historical tourism. The crypt is the family mausoleum where Mussolini and other family members are buried. Currently, the opening of the tomb is being promoted by the Mussolini family and the local authorities of Predappio.
