Memorial site to the barricades of 1991
This memorial is placed at St. Jacob's Church in Riga. According to the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia «the pyramide-shaped facets are inscribed with the names of the eight people killed in January and August 1991 and the text, which includes a four-line folk song. The memorial marker was unveiled in 2007 (by Sandro Dizains Ltd). It is on the site where concrete blocks from the barricades guarded the approach to the building of the Suprem Council of the Republic of Latvia. On 21 August 1991, the last attack on the barricades by the Soviet militia special units (OMON) took place. The barricades were dismantled in autumn 1992. The site was reconstructed in 2018.» These photos were taken in May 2024 and show some views of the Memorial site to the barricades of 1991.
