According to the official website of Kosovoguide «St. Teresa Cathedral is the only cathedral in the world dedicated to the Albanian saint, who spent most of her life working in the slums of India». In 2005, former Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova, who was Muslim, ceremonially laid the foundation stone. Construction began in 2007. The unfinished cathedral was inaugurated on 5 September 2010, the anniversary of Mother Teresa's death in 1997, as part of the centenary commemorations of her birth. The cathedral was formally consecrated seven years later, on 5 September 2017, 20 years after Mother Teresa's death. The construction of the cathedral generated some controversy in Muslim circles, where it was considered disproportionate given the small number of Catholics in the area. After the completion of the cathedral, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Prizren-Pristina was moved from Prizren to Pristina. These photos were taken in July 2025.
