The 2025 Newborn monument in Pristina
According to the official website of Karrota «NEWBORN is the Monument of the Declaration of Independence of Kosova. It was unveiled on 17 February 2008, and has been repainted differently every year, continuously giving it a new meaning. Each year’s theme contains a message from Kosova to the world, portraying its participation and contribution in global events. Ever since, NEWBORN has become the signature landmark of Prishtina, the capital city of Kosova, making it the most visited and photographed monument in the region. It is considered a live tourist attraction, a work of art as well as a national monument, putting it among the very few of its kind in the world... The 2025 New Born is dedicated to the reflection of our ongoing journey as we navigate the intersection of technology and humanity. The monument visually featured organic flowers – full of life, vibrant with color, and brimming with potential. From these organic flowers, digitalized electric lines, known in computer language as “motherboard lines,” branched out. “Motherboard lines” are the electrical pathways that connect parts of the processor and the entire internal system of the machine. This symbolism reflects how the digitalized world—artificial intelligence—has infiltrated the living world, pushing us from the natural into the synthetic, from life into machine, and paving the way toward a new digital world and an unknown journey. In this context, the arrangement of flowers within the letters will create waves, much like the waves of the sea, symbolizing the continuity of this change, the flow of life, while also reflecting the waves of technology that set the rhythm for this transformation. Flowers are not accidentally the central figure, as, since ancient times, they have represented love, passion, hope, peace, gratitude, and life itself.» These photos were taken in July 2025 and show a selection of views of the 2025 Newborn monument.
