The «Bärenïte» / The Orphan Girl
According to the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia this monument shows «the image of a little girl carved in granite on a base, at the foot of which is the text «To the Latvian children taken to Siberia 1941-1949». The spherical granite base symbolises the Siberian winter and slabs of ice. The monument was unveiled in 2008 (by sculptor Jänis Karlovs). In the deportations of 14 June 1941 and 25 March 1949, whole families with children, including infants, were sent to Siberia." These photos were taken in May 2024 and show some views of the monument.
