The Gračanica Monastery
The Gračanica Monastery is placed in Gračanica, a Serbian enclave in the close vicinity of Lipjan, a town and municipality located in the District of Pristina in Kosovo, which was the old residence of bishops of Lipljan. The Gračanica Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery built by the Serbian king Stefan Milutin in 1321. The monastery was declared a Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance in 1990 and in July 2006 it was placed on UNESCO's World Heritage List under the name of Medieval Monuments in Kosovo. According to the official website of Evendo « this UNESCO World Heritage site is renowned for its stunning Byzantine architecture, featuring intricate frescoes that adorn its walls. These frescoes, masterpieces of medieval art, depict various saints and biblical scenes, offering visitors a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Orthodox Christian history."
