The Liberation Monument
The Monument to the Liberators of Chisinau from Nazi Troops, also known as the Liberation Monument is situated on Constantin Negruzzi Boulevard, near the intersection with Dimitrie Cantemir Boulevard in Chisinau city center. It was inaugurated on August 22, 1969, during the Soviet era and honors the Red Army soldiers who took control of the city during World War II and expelled the German-fascist occupation forces. It was made by the sculptors L. Dubinovsky and N. Epelbaum and the architects I. Gritsenko and A. Minaev. The Monument to the Liberators remains a prominent Brutalist piece in Chisinau, consisting of a massive concrete pylon topped by a stylized figure of victory holding a flag and torch. These photos were taken in April 2026 and show a selection of views of the monument.
