The Yasar Pasha Mosque in Pristina
The Jashar Pasha Mosque is a historical mosque in Pristina, built in 1834 by the mayor of Skopje, Mehmet Yasar. According to the official website of Oral History Kosovo «the Yasar Pasha Mosque serves not only as a maktep for the study of Islam, but also as a meeting point for the elderly of this neighborhood during their five daily prayers. Friday has a special significance, because the imam of the mosque delivers a sermon and offers advice to the believers. Located between Çarshi Mosque and Great Mosque, the Yasar Pasha Mosque was built in the 16th century and underwent restoration in the 19th century initiated by the Mehmet Yasar Pasha, a Skopje governor at the time. Therefore, it is thought that the mosque was named after him. During the ‘60s, the mosque became an obstacle for the new urban plan and was partially demolished as a result, opening the way for the widening of the road in that part of the city.» These photos were taken in July 2025 and show a selection of exterior and interior views of the Jashar Pasha Mosque.
