A monument dedicated to Lithuanian deportees who endured suffering and perished in Yakutia between 1942 and 1956 was erected on Aukų Street in Vilnius in 2006, near the Museum of Genocide Victims, now named Museum of Occupations and Freedom fights. The monument created by sculptor Jonas Jagėla and architect Algis Vyšniūnas, symbolizes the suffering, spiritual resistance and hope of the deportees. Initial plans were to install the monument in Yakutsk (Yakutia, Russian Federation), but political circumstances prevented this. Finally, a suitable location was found in Vilnius. The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior Lithuanian officials, and the monument was blessed by Cardinal Audrys Juozas Bačkis. This monument commemorates the history of the deportees and preserves the memory of Lithuania. These photos were taken in April 2025 and show some views of the monument.
