To the Latvian National Resistance Movement members

According to the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia this memorial site is the building which «housed the headquarters of one of the Soviet repressive institutions, SMERSH. Hundreds of peope suffered from its political repression. SMERSH was a counter-intelligence agency of the Red Army of the USSR State Defence Committee, established n 1943. This organisation worked in parallel with the State Security Commitee (Cheka). The memorial was inaugurated in 2007 at the inititiative of the Latvian National Partisans’ Association."
